This one-of-a-kind hand crafted rug will look gorgeous in just about every room in your home. It can be used as a rug, blanket,(frazada), wall hanging or throw and it also makes a fantastic picnic blanket. This one is a vibrant combination of pinks and orange with green contrast tones that will liven any interior immediately. A very curious detail on this one is that the maker has woven names of her family members into the design, Betty,Juan and Angel, as well as some cute little llamas!
Our rugs are made from 100% naturally dyed sheep or llama wool. This wool has previously been spun on a drop spindle, before being handwoven, following centuries old traditional methods passed down through generations, using an Andean backstrap loom. Each piece is just under a metre wide so a signature feature of the rugs is the central seam that joins the two textile pieces. This is very skilfully integrated into the design, and is a stamp of authenticity.
We source all our rugs from small mountain villages in the Peruvian Andes, ensuring a fair price is paid to each artisan who will spend several weeks making it. Each design is inspired by the makers natural surroundings. The Andean people have a very close relationship with nature and the beauty and simplicity of their Cosmovision is reflected in everything they do.
In our ever-changing global world it is common for artisan craft to be undervalued, purchasing a genuine piece of textile art helps maintain these ancient traditions thriving.
Due to the handmade process, each piece may have slight imperfections thus creating a truly unique and ultimately authentic item. It's always a joy to discover the originality and peculiarity of each individual piece!!
